Thousands of people marched through the streets of Philadelphia on Monday to honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., and also to raise awareness of social causes including employee rights, police tactics, and education funding. The MLK Day of Action, Resistance and Empowerment March started at the Philadelphia School District building, then moved down Broad Street and around City Hall. The march continued on Market Street and culminated in a rally on Independence Mall. Participants in the march took to the streets of Philadelphia to effect social change with a spirit of activism and equality as Martin Luther King Jr. did during the civil rights movement.
