Twelve businesses were evacuated and power was turned off to an entire block after an underground explosion in Wayne, Delaware County on Monday evening. Frightened witnesses describe hearing a loud bang, followed by a bright flash before fire broke out in the Suburban Building. People nearby quickly fled the area, and no injuries were reported. Officials initially suspected a transformer housed in an electrical vault was the source of the explosion; however, PECO has determined that electrical wires were to blame.
