According to a survey conducted late last year by the Local Search Association (LSA), more adults are utilizing their smartphone’s voice-operated software for Internet searches. Of the 1,800 adults interviewed, 60 percent claimed they started using voice search in the past year, and 41 percent in the past six months.

What Does This Tell Us about Voice Search Software?

In a blog posted late last year, Google announced that their voice recognition system, which was first released in 2011, has improved due to more of a reliance on Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) which are better at capturing the natural tones and wavelengths in someone’s voice, even in a noisy environment. In addition to accuracy, this new update has also helped to make the processing time for searches much faster. Google’s Director of Conversational Search recently stated that Google has seen the ratio of voice search growing much faster than text search. This increase is no doubt due to technological improvements.

Spoken language and written language are inherently different. People do not speak the same way they write. Typing a question and asking a question are done in two very different ways.
