A SEPTA trolley bus and another vehicle were involved in an automobile accident Monday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both vehicles were traveling on Arrott Street, but when the bus slowed down and stopped at Penn Street, the other vehicle slammed into the rear of the bus at a high rate of speed.
According to Philadelphia Police Captain Drew Techner, the car was going very fast and would have continued speeding if the bus did not stop in its path. The front half of the car was destroyed, and both the driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital, where the driver was later pronounced dead. The passenger remains in critical condition. Officials say that 19 passengers were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
