Icy roads caused a salt truck to crash and overturn in Pittsburgh’s Elliot neighborhood late Monday night. The driver of the salt truck was trapped in the vehicle after the truck slid on ice on Danley Street into a hill and flipped over. Firefighters and medics were able to cut through the cab of the overturned salt truck and rescue the driver. He was transferred to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Officials are warning area residents to be extra cautious Tuesday morning, as any untreated wet surfaces will have frozen overnight and will increase the risk of Pittsburgh motor vehicle accidents.
