The Philadelphia office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued fines to two local construction companies whose disregard for employee safety resulted in a tragic fall accident at a West Chester construction site last July. A 30 year-old employee suffered permanent injuries, including paralysis, when he fell 40 feet to the ground at a residential construction site. High Quality Builders of Bordentown, New Jersey and TJ Ward Plumbing Heating and Commercial Services of Media, Pennsylvania were fined $72,880 and $24,500 respectively for safety violations on the jobsite that contributed to the accident. A spokesman for OSHA stressed that the construction accident and the employee’s tragic injuries could have been prevented if proper safety protocols had been followed.
