A Pittsburgh Port Authority police officer fired his weapon at a suspect during an arrest attempt at a West Busway parking lot on Monday, March 23. The officer was investigating drug activity at the Sheraden park-and-ride and was attempting to take a suspected heroin user into custody when the suspect put his car in reverse, and tried to run over the police officer. The detective, pinned between two cars, fired his weapon into the side of the suspect’s car before the driver fled the parking lot. Pittsburgh police stopped the car on East Carson Street and the driver, 21 year-old Joseph Dwinga of Lincoln Place, was charged with attempted homicide and taken to the hospital for drug testing. The police officer who was hit by the car was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment.
