Frustrated by the lack of information about what took place in the cab before the Amtrak train derailment in Philadelphia, Amtrak announced on Tuesday that it would be installing inward facing cameras in its train cabs. Regional trains that service Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and Boston will be outfitted with cameras first. Amtrak’s goal is to eventually have inward facing cameras installed on all locomotives. Amtrak has also been ordered by the Federal Railway Administration to post additional speed limit signs along tracks, and technology has been installed on the northbound railway through Philadelphia that can automatically slow a train that is entering the Frankford Junction curve too fast.
