Internet Marketing Company: Yahoo Cuts Jobs and Gets Hit with Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

Yahoo announced Tuesday that the troubled internet company will be cutting about 1,700 jobs in the first quarter of 2016, which represents about 15% of its workforce. The same day, a wrongful termination lawsuit was filed by a former Yahoo employee who claims gender discrimination and corrupt employee-ranking practices led to his illegal dismissal from the company. In the lawsuit, plaintiff Gregory Anderson claims that prior to losing his job, he had a received a raise, a promotion and praise for his work performance during his four years at Yahoo. However, in November, 2014, Anderson was told that based on quarterly performance reviews, he ranked in the bottom 5% of Yahoo employees, and he was being dismissed. Anderson claims that Yahoo’s employee ranking system is manipulated to justify layoffs and is seeking damages of $5 million.
