The holiday shopping season is upon us and Cyber Monday is a great place to find deals on the web, but beware of internet predators looking to steal credit card numbers and passwords.   The National Retail Federation estimates 140 million Americans started their shopping over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and many will utilize the amazing deals on the web to find that perfect gift for family and friends.   Check out the internet shopping tips below to keep your accounts and personal information safe.

  • Try to stay on websites that are familiar to you.
  • Look for the little padlock icon in the margins of the website.
  • An easy way to insure that you are on a safe site is to make sure that the website address starts with “https://”
  • Beware of any phone or internet contact from someone stating that they represent your bank or credit card company.
  • Contact your credit card company to see if they have a program that will allow you to be notified every time your credit card is used.
